The Quest has been around since 1993 in an relatively unknown capacity until the third generation model was introduced. Nissan wanted to separate the Quest from the field at that point. It used the award winning 3.5 liter VQ engine. And was modernized to compete with other popular minivans being introduced to the market.
If you own Mercury Villager, read on, it’s almost exactly the same vehicle. Same engines and other major components.

The Quest is a front wheel drive van, the first and second generation models were built on Ford VX54 platforms, using Ford engines. The 3.0 liter VG30E V6, and the 3.3 liter VG33E V6. These are front wheel drive engines only. Transverse is the technical term for this setup. VG engines are from one of Fords engine families.
The VQ engine family by Nissan all have aluminum blocks and heads, V6 engines making use of many Nissan technologies that made it an award winner. Some of the notable technology used is Nissan’s EGI/ECCS sequential port fuel injection and MPFI system. As I mentioned, it was awarded a spot on Wards top 10 engine list every year it has been made.
Making a decision on which engine suits your interests can be difficult and nerve racking. My point of view suggests that the first two generations made are candidates for rebuilt engines. Part of my reasoning is that a good used engine may be hard to find for a vehicle that old. If one is available, we have first rights to it. You can bet it’s documented to be in perfect operating condition, ready to drop right in, and guaranteed to exceed your expectations.
Newer Quests are good candidates for used engines. We have availability to the finest pre tested and documented low mileage used engines. Our used engines are certified good, and are quite a value for someone on a budget. Without sacrificing your safety of confidence, used engines are a great value for many people.
